Prerequisites . . .

You should feel comfortable in the water. Remember this is a water sport and eventually YOU WILL GET WET. Although each canoe is equipped with lifejackets, it is very important that you know at least the basics of swimming --- treading water and being able to propel yourself forward in the water, even if it's dog paddling!

It is also important that you respect the canoes. You will learn how to take care of them, carry them, how to get in and out of them and how to refer to them.

Things you will need if you're to be a paddler . . .

  • Paddles - the club provides paddles for each novice member. Please take care of the equipment by rinsing the paddles after each use and putting them back in the paddle box.

  • Clothing - wear something that can get wet, like surf trunks, or neoprene shorts and capilene top. Windbreakers, hats and rashguards help on cold weather days. Announcements will be made when club uniforms will be available for purchase.

  • Water/Food - bring a bottle of water that can be strapped to the canoe with a bungee cord and a nutrition bar. Camelbacks are good investments.

  • Sunscreen - the water reflects so protect yourself!  Sunglasses for sunny days.

Please download and fill out this Liability Release form , and bring it down with you to the beach.  You can't get in a canoe without one.  Please make sure all information is legible.  Mahalo.
